Want some extra incentive to bike to work next month, or get your co-workers to discover the joys of bike commuting?
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance is now registering participants for this year's Bike Commute Challenge, which takes place the month of September. The challenge uses friendly competition, fun and prizes to spur more folks to pedal to work.
For the first time this year, participants can log their trips by using their smartphone or other mobile devices.
For those new to the program, the BTA will send a delegate to your workplace or community group to offer a one-hour workshop. The session covers bike laws, choosing gear, route planning, navigating traffic signs, bike lanes, bike boxes and the dreaded railroad ties, and other topics. Workshops are offered in the Portland area, but those outside the metro area can glean the same information by joining a webinar on Wednesday, August 13, from noon to 1 p.m.
