PGE throws party for green energy customers

Portland General Electric customers buy enough renewable energy to light up the city’s “Portland, Ore.,” sign for 145,000 years.

To celebrate more than 100,000 customers who participate in the Portland utility's renewable energy programs, the Morrison Bridge will be lit green all week. Additionally, PGE’s renewable energy customers are invited to a party at the World Trade Center Plaza from 4-7 p.m. tonight.

Festivities include face painting, live music, photo booths and a visit from Timbers and Thorns players. Food and beverages will be provided by local businesses who support renewable energy.

Customers participating in the program purchase either 100 percent of their energy from renewable resources or small units of wind energy. On average, that costs an extra $6 per month.

Since the program’s inception, more than 5.6 billion kilowatt hours of renewable energy have been purchased. PGE has more customers choosing renewable energy than any other utility in the nation.
