Tire processing company slapped with penalty for polluting
RB Recycling Inc., a tire processing company operating in North Portland, was fined $27,330 by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for stormwater discharge permit violations.
DEQ says the company has had numerous permit violations, including failure to monitor its discharges for pollutants, and failure to take corrective action when those discharges exceeded allowable pollution limits.
Stormwater discharges may include solids, foam, oil sheen or discoloration.
DEQ also issued penalties to the company for stormwater permit violations in 2009 and 2012.
DEQ estimated the company saved $3,500 by not following the terms of its permit.
RB Recycling has facilities at 9945 N. Burgard Way and 8501 N. Borthwick Ave.
