Legislature's environmental leader to quit and join Mayor Hales' staff
State Sen. Jackie Dingfelder, the Portland Democrat who has spearheaded environmental legislation in the Senate, will resign from the Oregon Legislature to work for Mayor Charlie Hales.
Dingfelder was first elected to the Legislature in 2000. In 2011, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters named her the Environmental Champion of the Year. She was also one of only eight state legislators to receive a perfect score of 100% on the OLCVs issues scorecard.
She brings a diverse portfolio of academic and professional expertise to us on sustainability, planning, social justice, and environmental issues," Hales said in a prepared statement. "Her political and policy background will be a huge asset for us and for the city."
Dingfelder will step down from the Senate soon, and join the mayor's staff on Nov. 4.
