Rancher sues wind energy developer, saying turbines near his home are too noisy
An Eastern Oregon rancher is suing a wind energy operator, saying noise from nearby wind turbines is marring his health, making it hard to sleep, and reducing his property values.
Dan Williams filed the lawsuit in federal court in Portland against Chicago-based Invenergy, which built and operates the turbines near Williams 209-acre ranch north of Heppner, in Morrow County.
Williams contends that Invenergys testing showed the wind turbines violate state noise standards.
The turbines are part of the 72-megawatt, 48-turbine Willow Creek complex.
