Lewis and Clark and PSU among elite green colleges

Lewis and Clark College and Portland State University scored the highest possible listings for environmentally conscious colleges in Princeton Review’s 2014 Green Rating Honor Roll.

The two Portland institutions were among 22 colleges and universities scoring the maximum score of 99 for the company’s list of green colleges. The rankings are part of Princeton Review’s annual college ranking publication, “The Best 378 Colleges.”

PSU has been making waves in the sustainability field ever since winning a $25 million challenge grant several years ago from the Marion L. Miller Foundation.

Lewis and Clark has gained less attention, but the Southwest Portland college generates all its electricity from renewable green power, and has reduced its carbon emissions by more than 30 percent since 2006. For 2013, Lewis and Clark ranked first in the Northwest Conference in the EPA’s College and University Green Power Challenge.
