The Bicycle Transportation Alliance is gearing up for its annual Bike Commute Challenge next month.

The idea is to motivate more people to try commuting by bike on a regular basis, throughout the month of September. Teams are organized by work place, with prizes awarded for best participation.

In 2012, BTA’s commute challenge attracted 11,745 riders in 1,395 participating work places. Combined, they bikes more than 1.3 million miles in a month.

Competition winners are announced at a big After Party on Oct. 10.
