Massive tree-planting campaign along I-205 ends, with party
A four-year campaign to plant 5,000 trees alongside the
Interstate 205 multi-use path has ended, with the help of hundreds of volunteers organized by Friends of Trees and a $410,000 grant from Metro.
Those who took part in the massive undertaking will celebrate with A Party on the Path, on Wednesday, July 24, at 5:30 p.m. The event takes place along the well-trod bicycle and foot path next to the freeway, at Southeast 94th Avenue and Schiller Street. The path is the most commonly used north-south bicycle route through East Portland.
Among the 1,800 volunteers who planted trees the past four years are people from I Have a Dream Oregon, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Association of Slavic Immigrants, Tzu Chi Academy, and the East Portland Action Plan.
