Bowmen, Wolves run strong at invitational

Both teams are prepping for upcoming district meets


WILSONVILLE — The Tualatin and Sherwood high school cross country programs both found some success at the Sandelie Golf Course XC Classic, held on Friday.

On the boys side, Tualatin finished in 11th place in the team standings, out of a field of 32 teams, with 359 points and Sherwood placed 21st at 541.

Junior Matthew Lovos led the way for the Tualatin boys. He finished in 10th place in the individual standings with a time of 16 minutes, 5.6 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Also for the Timberwolves, sophomore Mark French was 50th at 16:49.5, senior Tyler Snyder was 92nd at 17:18.4, sophomore Malachi Seib was 104th at 17:28.0 and junior William Calder was 115th at 17:34.2

Junior Joshua Moats was the top finisher for the Sherwood boys. He placed 62nd with a time of 17:00.5.

Also for the Bowmen, senior Olsen Cottle was 64th at 17:00.6, junior Connor McLaughlin was 99th at 17:23.5, sophomore Andrew Peters was 172nd at 18:13.9 and sophomore Ryan Chidlaw was 176th at 18:17.4.

On the girls side, Sherwood finished in ninth place in the team standings with a score of 254 and Tualatin placed 17th with a total of 420.

Junior Madison Budge led the way for the Lady Bowmen, placing 31st in a time of 19:56.7.

Also for Sherwood, senior Samantha Stewart was 49th at 20:28.0, junior Sam Mckibbon was 56th at 20:40.1, senior Avery Rosenbalm was 59th at 20:47.4 and junior Bridgett Palmer was 67th at 20:58.2.

For the Tualatin girls, freshman Kate Intile set the pace, running to 51st place in a time of 20:33.1.

Also for the Wolves, junior Joslyn Gastiaburu was 89th at 21:18.6, sophomore Sarah Krill was 94th at 21:27.0, freshman Nicole Oh was 97th at 21:29.0 and sophomore Amanda Keen was 114th at 21:48.5.

Mountain View of Bend finished in first place in both the boys and girls team standings for the invite.

The Sherwood teams will next be in action at the Northwest Oregon Conference District Championships, which will be held next Wednesday at Blue Lake Park in Fairview.

The varsity girls race will start off the action at the district meet, beginning at 3 p.m. The varsity boys will follow at 3:30 p.m. The junior varsity girls race will be at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity boys to follow at 4:45 p.m.

The top two teams and top five individuals in each of the varsity races advance to compete at the Class 5A state meet.

The Tualatin teams were slated to host Tigard and Newberg in a Pacific Conference three-way meet on Wednesday. Results of that meet weren’t available when The Times went to press.

The Wolves will next be in action at the Pacific Conference District Championships, which will be held next Thursday at Clackamas Community College.
