Lady Bowmen clinch NWOC dual meet title

Sherwood teams start action at district meet today


SHERWOOD — The Sherwood High School girls track and field team made it official.

The Lady Bowmen wrapped up the Northwest Oregon Conference dual meet championship by sweeping Liberty and Sandy in a four-way league meet, which also included St. Helens, held May 8 at Sherwood High School.

The Sherwood girls downed Liberty 81-64 and they scored a 106-38 victory over Sandy to finish the regular season with a 7-0 record in league dual meets.

The Lady Bowmen had a big day in the field events at last week’s title-clinching meet.

Sherwood junior Elyse Cuthbertson picked up a pair of victories in the throwing events. She triumphed in the javelin with a toss of 112 feet, 10 inches and she had a winning mark of 36-2 in the shot put.

Sherwood senior Emily Hamilton won the discus with a throw of 113-10.

Senior Emily Sackinger cleared 10-0 to take first place in the pole vault and sophomore Mikala Otto had a winning distance of 15-9 1/2 in the long jump.

On the track, Lady Bowmen senior Jessica Imbrie sprinted to victory in the 200 in a time of 26.34 seconds. Sherwood freshman Savannah Case won the 300 low hurdles with a mark of 51.02.

The Sherwood boys came up with a split at last week’s meet. The Bowmen bested Liberty 91-54, but they were edged 80-65 by Sandy. The split left Sherwood with a final league dual meet record of 4-3.

Sherwood senior Emil Eriksson was a two-time winner at the meet. Eriksson won the 100 in a time of 11.40 and he had a winning mark of 22.98 in the 200.

Sherwood junior Hunter Pfefferkorn picked up a victory in the 400 in a time of 50.99. In the 4 x 400 relay, the Bowmen team of senior Conner Duppenthaler, junior Cole Nixon, senior Cristian Morris and senior Cody Thompson got a win in 3:26.48.

Sherwood senior Logan Smith had a winning throw of 51-1 in the shot put, senior Zach Milligan cleared 6-6 to take the top spot in the high jump and junior Bailey States placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 39-6.

The Bowmen teams will be back in action when they start competition at the Northwest Oregon Conference district championships, which will be held today (Thursday) and Friday at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie.

Today, field event competition will start at 3 p.m. and running events will start at 4 p.m. On Friday, field event competition will start at 3:30 p.m. and running-event finals will begin at 5 p.m.
