COURTESY OF PPA CHARITIES - Here are before and after photos of Danila, a little girl from a developing country who benefited from the services of Operation Smile, an international medical charity that provides free surgeries for children and young adults with facial deformities including cleft palate. Lisa Dillon wants to make sure all children in developing countries have a chance at life-changing surgery to correct any facial deformities they have.

With that in mind, Dillon, of Lisa Dillon Photography in Sherwood, is hosting a May 6 portrait session with all proceeds benefiting Operation Smile, an international medical charity that provides free surgeries for children and young adults with facial deformities including cleft palate.

"It really fits with photography because we tell people to smile," she said. "One hundred percent of this goes to Operation Smile."

She said this year she is in friendly competition with a friend of her's from Reno, Pete Rezac, who donated $4,000 to Operation Smile last year.

"So I told him, 'I'm going to do it and I'm going to beat you,'" said Dillon, a resident of Sherwood for the past 20 years, who opened her photo studio in 2003.

Dillion is on the governing body of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and is a member and former ambassador for PPA Charities, the organization's philanthropic arm, which has worked throughout the years with Operation Smile.

While she's done extensive philanthropic work in the past, Dillon said she's particularly happy to be doing something to benefit Operation Smile, an organization she fully supports because of their work. She's also done "Now I lay me Down to Sleep," (which provides free photographic services to parents who have lost babies) and Bridges, a Doernbecher's Children Hospital program that provides photos for terminally ill children.COURTESY OF SAM TARREL - Lisa Dillon

She is also Oregon vice president of the Oregon PPA, serving as a mentor to new photographers in an effort to raise the level of professional photography skills and ethics.

After agreeing to the challenge, Dillon partnered with New Smiles Dental and dentists Dr. Ben Aanderud and Dr. Nathan Doyel to host the May 6 event at their offices. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. — "If there's more people, I'll keep on going," she said — Dillon will be collecting donations of $24 per smile with all proceeds going to Operation Smile.

For that donation, smilers will get a professional 5X7 portrait.

For those who donate what would be the cost of an entire facial surgery, which is $240, they will receive a signed 11X14 portrait.

"I'll have a background," she said. "I'll basically be setting up my studio in the lobby of New Smiles."

Later, Dillon said she will create a slideshow on YouTube.
