Lawmakers: Change legal age to buy tobacco products to 21
There's a deadly substance out there hooking our children to a lifetime of addiction. That substance is nicotine. Within 10 seconds of entering your body, nicotine reaches your brain. where it has a drug-like "up and down" effect that leads to addiction.
Nicotine is especially harmful for youths. Young teens and children are still going through critical brain development, and growing bodies of evidence suggest that the brains of adolescents are even more susceptible to the addictive potential of nicotine. Research from the U.S. Surgeon General suggests that teenagers can become dependent on nicotine very quickly and at lower levels of exposure than adults.
