In addition to a successful Second Annual Sherwood Wine Festival held June 23 and 24, those who had to answer nature's call got a look at some creative portable toilets.
That's because four local businesses competed in a fun event to decorate the portable outside toilets with money benefiting the Sherwood Education Foundation.
As part of the festival's Spirit Sponsor Competition, local businesses The Hungry Hero Dessert Co. Dutch Brothers, It's All Arranged and Casey Hill State Farm Insurance elaborately decorated four of the portable toilets, pitching in $250 each for the honor (with the winner's sponsorship matched by the wine festival).
"Votes were collected onsite by a committee member who made some rounds asking guests their favorite and the wine festival committee turned in their votes as well," said Amber Gardner, who helped organize the competition and whose business, Gardner Team Real Estate (along with Directors Mortgage), were this year's title sponsors. "We feel like they were all winners, the four local businesses really went all out and the Sherwood Education Foundation was represented well with support."
Nevertheless, once all the votes were counted, The Hungry Hero Dessert Co.'s entry, "The Closet," won the top honors, recieving the King of the Throne trophy. That meant that the Sherwood Education Foundation, which funds many charitable and education projects throughout the community, received $1,250.
This year's event was hosted by 503Uncorked.
