Andy Duyck made it official today: He will not seek a third term as Washington County board chairman after almost a quarter century of involvement in county government.
He made his personal plans known at the end of the annual state of the county address, which took place at a Westside Economic Alliance breakfast at Intel's Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro.
"Many of you have known for some time that I have been considering retiring from public office at the completion of my current term," he said in remarks that were not in his initial draft.
"After much contemplation about my future, I am ready to announce today that this is true, and I will be retiring at the end of 2018."
Duyck made his announcement as Washington County recorded an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent in February, second in Oregon only to Benton County's 3 percent — and the lowest since records have been kept for 40 years.
