New Sherwood officer, who graduated from Sherwood High, sworn in

Officer Colton Waker was sworn in as the newest member of the Sherwood Police Department, selected as the top candidate from a pool of up to 100 applicants

COURTESY OF CAPT. MARK DANIEL/SPD - Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Groth, right, swears in Colton Waker as the newest member of the Sherwood Police Department on April 4 as Connie Randall, the city's planning manager, looks on.
The Sherwood Police Department has welcomed a new officer to its ranks. On April 4, Officer Colton Waker was sworn in by Chief Jeff Groth during a Sherwood City Council meeting.

Groth said Waker, 21, came out on top from a field of between 75 and 100 applicants. A Sherwood resident since he was 1 years old, he graduated from Sherwood High School where he was a varisty second basemen for the Bowmen, part of the baseball team in his senior year when they took the state championship.

He met his wife, Ellie, who pinned on his badge at the swearing-in ceremony, as a junior at SHS as well. Colton will graduate from Oregon State University in June with a degree in communications.

"That's super exciting having one of our own become one of our own," said Mayor Krisanna Clark after the swearing-in ceremony.

Waker will now attend the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem.
