Survey allows county residents to weigh in on array of issues

Washington County residents are invited to join Westside Voices, a web-based public opinion survey service. Started by the county and Clean Water Services, it regularly samples the opinions of residents on a variety of community topics. The names of the participants are kept confidential.

Most recently, Westside Voices solicited opinions about transportation needs in the county. Most residents — 79 percent — said the county should prioritize maintaining existing roads. That result was consistent with a scientific poll on the subject conducted in April.

“This was a great opportunity to compare a scientific poll with an unscientific poll,” said Washington County Commission Chairman Andy Duyck. “It will give us greater trust in Westside Voices for the future.”

Westside Voices is similar to other online surveys being conducted by governments around the world. One is Opt In, which is operated my Metro, the elected regional government. They are intended to reach residents who may not have time to attend public meetings.

Any resident of Washington County age 14 and older may sign up by visiting joinwestsidevoices.org.
