Robin Hood Festival kicks into high gear, Maid Marian Court named

The annual festival is set for July 19 and 20 in Old Town Sherwood

The coronation for the 2013 Maid Marian Court was held April 22. Maid Marian 2013 is Katy Roach. Other members of the Senior Court are Cate Hall, Emma Hall, Sierra McCaulley and Megan Starling. Junior Court members are Delaney Carlson, Ella Kunert, Brooklynne Lovell, Keeley McCaulley and Emma Starling.

Robin Hood Festival Old Town events will take place July 19-20, with the popular community parade taking place Saturday, July 20 at 10 a.m. The parade theme is “Hats off to Robin Hood: 60th Annual Festival.” Parade applications are available at www.robinhoodfestival.org. A voluntary donation of $10 is suggested for parade entrants.

Back by popular demand after a number of years, plans are being finalized for The Pet Show, sponsored by Unleashed by Petco. The Pet Show will take place at the Veterans Park Family Stage Saturday, July 20, at 5 p.m. Pets of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to participate. There will be three main categories in the judging: Best Trick, Best Costume/Dressed and Best Pet/Pet Parent lookalike, as well as the Best in -Show.

Prizes will be available from Unleashed by Petco to all who participate in the Pet Show, so hurry to www.robinhoodfestival.org for details and to register your furry or scaly friend today! All applications must be submitted no later than Monday, July 8, 2013. All pets must be contained and show valid proof of rabies vaccination at the event. The Pet Show joins the annual Castle Contest and Flower/Plant Show on Saturday, July 20, so be sure to be thinking about all the different ways you can creatively participate in our growing array of contests.

The 58th Annual International Archery Tournament will take place July 20-21 at the Elks Lodge.

There are opportunities for people of all ages to compete at many different skill levels. Registration is being handled by the Sylvan Archers, and more information is available at www.robinhoodfestival.org.

The Robin Hood Festival held its annual Family Bingo Night and Silent Auction fundraiser May 4. We would like to thank the Elks Lodge for hosting the event, all who came out to show their support and enjoy a night of family fun, and the many businesses and individuals donating items. We plan to place additional items in a second silent auction at the festival itself.

Volunteers are needed to help with many aspects of the Festival. Regular meetings are the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Old Town. All are welcome to attend.
