As any parent knows, the weeks and months following the birth of your first child can be the most draining and challenging time of your life. When you're struggling with sleep deprivation and managing the most basic of personal care tasks, finding a pediatrician can seem like an insurmountable task.

It's important to have a pediatrician that you trust, because infants visit their doctor very often for the first two years of life. A recent study by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia shows that babies who see the same doctor are up to twice as likely to have important health tests by the time they've turned two.

If you're entering your third trimester of pregnancy, now is a good time to start scouting for your child's pediatrician. Consider convenience and access, such as the commute—since you have to be there so often, the closer to your child's doctor, the better—and the hours during which they offer care. Consider the provider's qualifications, such as whether they're board-certified. And once you've identified a doctor who might be a good fit, consider drawing up a list of questions about important topics, such as breastfeeding.

Providence Medical Group Sherwood offers morning, afternoon and evening appointments and an after-hours registered nurse advice line. They also have an Immediate Care that is open for walk in appointments 7 days a week. To schedule a Meet and Greet appointment for expectant parents or find a caring provider who will be the best for you and your family, call 503-216-9600.
