Tribe boys, girls golf headed to state championships

Thanks to a pair of sub-100 scores from Scappoose junior Syrina Revis, the Indians are heading to the OSAA state finals as district golf champions.

Revis led Scappoose with scores of 99 and 93 to take second-place overall at the 4A/3A/2A/1A district 1 competition on Tuesday, the top-scorer of the five Indian golfers to finish in the top-10. Senior Lexi Schlosser took third with a score of 200 and junior Baylee Maloney finished fifth with a mark of 219. Sophomore Isabel Jory shot a 225 to place eighth, and junior Molly Landin squeezed into the top-10 with a score of 227 to take ninth place.

The Indians finished just ahead of Seaside, who will send Katy Kawasoe, Caroline Kotson, Kaylea Robertson and Cadyn Carr to the state championships, along with individual qualifier Chloee Hunt from Astoria.

The Scappoose boys are also headed to the state championships after a second-place finish in their district competition behind Seaside and one stroke ahead of Banks. Juniors Tyler Lukinbeal and Avi German led the Indians with their only two top-10 finishes, taking 7th and 10th with scores of 171 and 187 respectively. Sophomore Andrew Kercher placed 14th with a score of 191, beating out fellow sophomore Braxton Sue who placed 15th with a score of 192. Freshman Nathan Mapes rounded out the state-bound team with a 17th overall finish, scoring an even 200.

“We are looking forward to gaining some great experience at state and we are also looking forward to 2015 with everyone on the state tournament team returning and a group of very promising players returning,” said Steve Hagen, head coach of the Tribe boys.

The 4A boys' competition will take place on May 19 and 20 at the Eagle Crest Ridge Course in Redmond, while the girls will travel to Corvallis to compete at Trysting Tree Golf Club. The boys will begin with Lukinbeal on Monday at 8 a.m., and will be paired with Sweet Home and Henley. Revis will tee off first for the girls at 7:30 a.m., beginning a pairing with Crook County and Henley.
