Indians run wild, dominate Yamhill-Carlton

Indians break a two-game losing streak and restart their quest for a playoff berth.

by: JOHN BREWINGTON - Carson Davison (1) looks for an open gap in the defense. Davison rushed for 86 yards against Yamhill-Carlton on Oct. 4, the second-highest total for his senior season.Scappoose got a touchdown from seven different players, including a pair of rushing touchdowns for senior quarterback Taylor Loss en route to a 56-7 smashing of Yamhill-Carlton. The Indians (4-2, 1-1 Cowapa) broke a two game losing streak with a win over the Tigers (2-4, 1-1 Cowapa), who scored their lone touchdown late in the third quarter after many of the Scappoose starters had already hit the bench.

Loss, who has had yet another breakout year at quarterback for the Indians, continued his hot streak. He completed 25 of 31 attempts with 207 yards passing and two touchdowns. Though he was intercepted by the Tigers, Loss has 12 touchdown passes with just four picks.

Adding a few strange stats to the final box score, the Indians had four different players throw passes. In addition to 31 attempts from Loss, the Tribe saw passes thrown from junior Joseph Krupsky, as well as sophomores Owen Parsons and Robert Lohman. Krupsky completed two passes, one of which was caught for the first touchdown thrown this year by a player other than Loss.

In addition to the diversity in the passing game, the Indians had eight players carry the ball for a season-high 230 yards. This comes a game after McNabb pledged to improve on running the ball, a game in which the Indians rushed for just 31 yards.

With Banks getting the win off a late pick-six over Astoria, the Braves are still in the drivers seat for the Cowapa league title. Even if the Indians aren’t able to catch Banks, head coach Sean McNabb still says there is great potential for this team to go far and have a shot at the state title.

Scappoose will next take the field on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Tillamook High School. The game was moved to Thursday because of a school inservice day.
