Behemoth pumpkin adorns the Columbia Courthouse Plaza for Spirit of Halloweentown festivities

SPOTLIGHT PHOTO: NICOLE THILL - Pictured Crystal Sutherland, center, and her children, Maddison and Bradley, pose for a quick photo with the new metalic pumpkin in the Coulmbia Courthouse Plaza. A new metallic seven-foot-tall pumpkin sculpture adorns the center of the Columbia Courthouse Plaza as the newest addition to Spirit of Halloweentown décor. The 800-pound silver pumpkin, nicknamed "Jill," was installed in the courthouse plaza Saturday night, Sept. 30. The creation was designed by Aloha-based metal sculpture artist Stu Luxenberg, with the help of his friend Don Woodson of Hillsboro. Production of the piece took a month-and-a-half, while design work and concept conversations started in January, Luxenberg said.

A member of the production company E2C, the company that employs city-contracted event planner Tina Curry, approached him about creating the piece and he was intrigued.

Last year, Luxenberg crafted the laser-cut archway piece that adorns the courthouse plaza bearing the words "Spirit of Halloweentown."

More of his work can be seen on his website, www.metalartbystu.com.
