Nirvana has worked in the King City office since purchasing the practice of Dr. Dimitri Vareldzis, who built the building at 15885 S.W. 116th Ave., in November 2011.

After graduating from Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry in 2007, Nirvana got a "great” job with Dr. Michael Criscione at Criscione Family Dentistry in Lake Oswego, but after Josh purchased the Woodburn practice, she started looking for her own office.

"We lived on Bull Mountain and had a new baby, so I wanted to work in the community where I live," said Nirvana, who now has a second son, Cyrus, born June 23, in addition to big brother John, who is now 3 years old.

"A big part of buying a practice is sharing the same philosophy so the patients feel comfortable," Nirvana said. "It took me a long time to buy the practice because I wanted to make sure our personalities and backgrounds are similar. I wanted to make sure we were of the same stripe. After I bought the practice, a lot of my Lake Oswego patients followed me over here.

"I practice conservative dentistry. I would rather start with a filling or onlay or a crown before doing an implant. The biggest thing for me is having informed patients so they can make a decision that is right for them. I do have a good number of seniors in my practice, but I work with all ages and sponsor Tigard High School teams - basically all of them."

Nirvana is the sole dentist in the practice, and while she has been on maternity leave - due back in the office Sept. 22 - two of her instructors from dental school are filling in.

"I want to build my practice by word of mouth," Nirvana said. "I am here for the long term, like for the next 30 years. Some of Dr. Vareldzis' staff stayed on, and we have a great team consisting of a hygienist, two full-time assistants and an office manager."

Josh grew up in Knappa, and Nirvana grew up in Lake Oswego, graduating from Lake Oswego High School and then starting at Portland State University majoring in pre-med/biology.

"I was working as a receptionist in a dental office and liked the connection with the patients, so I switched majors and became a dentist," said Nirvana, who met Josh at dental school and graduated in 2007.
