'Korner' store features items made of fun fabrics
Robbie and Michael Weber turn her love of sewing and fabrics into a business
Robbie's Korner, co-owned by Robbie and Michael Weber, is a new business in King City that features all manner of handmade items, including large swaddling blankets, hooded towels, baby washcloths, burp cloths, teddy bears without button eyes that can be pulled off, "adult bibs" or large lined aprons, mommy-and-me matching aprons, girls' skirts and soon-to-come, women's skirts.
There also is a huge variety of larger blankets, both sewn and tied fleece, patchwork blankets, and waterproof blankets for picnics, soccer games and other events where people need a dry seat on a wet surface.
"I'm the sewer in the family," said Robbie, who has been sewing since the second or third grade. "I've always sewn - mostly gifts. I enjoy it - fabric and books are the only thing I like to shop for.
This is the Webers seventh year in the business, selling the products at farmers markets and bazaars and online. Every Sunday they sell at the Astoria Sunday Market.
But Robbie and Michael, who live in Tigard, have 5-year-old twins, Kayla and Jessica, and decided that as the girls are getting older, it would be more practical to own a brick-and-mortar store.
And if there aren't customers in the store, Robbie stays busy at her sewing machine in the rear.
The couple - she grew up in Sherwood, and he grew up in Denver - opened the store April 16 after redecorating and setting up their display racks and shelves, with Michael noting, "It's five minutes away from where we live. It's the perfect spot for us - and not too big or too small."
In addition to all the items made of colorful fabrics for sale, as well as the ability to make custom orders, the store also sells skin care lines for both adults and babies plus two books written by Michael, including "We Made Mommy Mashed Potatoes," which coincidentally features twins in a fabric store.
"My girls know they were the inspiration," Michael said.
Robbie's Korner, located at 15591 S.W. 116th Ave., is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Items for sale also can be viewed and purchased at RobbiesKorner.etsy.com; for more information, call 503-475-9584.
