Maybe it's all those PDX carpet selfies - Oregon's biggest airport was the most often tagged spot in the state in 2017.

(Image is Clickable Link) COURTESY: INSTAGRAM/CHRIS COSENTINO - Celebrity chef Chris Cosentino posted this picture of his feet at the Portland International Airport Dec. 7. Airport carpet selfies have become a tradition at this most-instagrammed place in the state in 2017. Whether folks are coming or going, time at the Portland airport means it's time to snap a picture.

Instagram has released data on 2017's year in pictures from the 800 million people worldwide who use the smartphone app.

The most-instagrammed city in the world was New York City with the top geotagged location being the "happiest place on Earth" — Disneyland.

In Oregon, the top geotagged location was the Portland International Airport. Known to locals by its airport code, PDX, the airport also has a unique tradition dating back to the 2015 removal of its belovedly out-dated carpet. Many travelers still take pictures of their feet on the new carpet, much as they did to memorialize the 1987 turquoise pattern before its replacement.

Well hello Portland aren’t you bright & sunny today!!

Leaving from or heading to Portland also affords stunning views of Mt. Hood to the east.

The second-most tagged place on Instagram is Seaside Beach, just a short drive from Portland.
