Pedestrian killed on Highway 213 in Oregon City

Police seek public's help in investigation of early morning incident

An Oregon City woman died Saturday morning after being run over on Highway 213 near Meyers Road in Oregon City.

According to a press release from the Oregon State Police, a call was made to 9-1-1 at approximately 12:46 a.m. Saturday, reporting a pedestrian-involved fatal crash. The highway was closed in both directions while police worked the scene, with a detour in place until 7 a.m.

The preliminary investigation by police indicates that the victim, 44-year old Karen Edna Erie, was lying in the right southbound lane of Highway 213 just south of Meyers Road when she was run over by a southbound 2007 Hyundai passenger car driven by 22-year old Cassandra L. Kieling of Milwaukie. The release said the victim died at the scene before she could be transported to a hospital.

According to police, the victim's activities prior to being struck are still unclear. However, investigators said there is no evidence of impairment on the part of the driver. Names are to be released following the notification of next of kin.

OSP troopers and detectives from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Oregon City Police Department and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, as well as the county district attorney's and medical examiner's offices.

Investigators are seeking public assistance from anyone who traveled in the area prior to 12:46 a.m. and may have seen anything connected with this incident.
