Man dies, wife injured in Highway 211 crash
A woman was injured and her husband later died Sunday when their car ran off the road and flipped over on Highway 211 near Colton.
At approximately 4:56 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, a 2006 Subaru Legacy driven by Alice M. Schweitzer, 81, of Boring, was traveling northbound on Highway 211 when it went off the highway, down a grassy embankment and then flipped over onto its top.
Firefighters from Molalla, Estacada and Colton extricated Schweitzer and her husband, Donald Schweitzer, 86, from the car, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman.
A Life Flight helicopter was called in to transport Donald Schweitzer to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, where he later died. Alice M. Schweitzer was transported by AMR ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints, Hastings said.
Driver fatigue is identified as a contributing factor. OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Cameron Bailey is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Colton Rural Fire District #70, Estacada Rural Fire District #69, Molalla Rural Fire Protection District #73 ambulance, and AMR ambulance.
