Classic cars converge in Forest Grove

You can see more than 300 stunning automobiles at Pacific University today

by: PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP: JOHN SCHRAG - John Bennett put a final bit of elbow grease into this 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Touring Berlinetta which is on display at today's Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance.

It required an unexpected tromp through a wheat field, but one of the most celebrated cars in the Pacific Northwest made it back to Forest Grove for today’s Concours d’Elegance.

The annual classic car show, which wraps up a 4:30 p.m., drew 326 entries this years, including some particularly stunning vehicles. Topping that list is a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Touring Berlinetta, which epitomizes the theme of this year’s show: “The Art of Italian Motoring.”

Entered by Jon Shirley of Medina Washington, the Berlinetta won Best of Show and received the Elegance in Motion Trophy at the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours.

The car participated in Saturday’s Vineyard Tour and along the way one of its front hubcaps went flying off into a freshly cut wheat field. A brief search turned up the chrome disc and the car was back on the Pacific University campus early this morning.

Today's Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance also celebrates 50 Years of the Ford Mustang and Pontiac GTO with special displays. A 1965 Ford Mustang convertible displayed by the LeMay car museum in Tacoma is the centerpiece of the Mustang feature class.

The event, one of the premier classic car shows on the West Coast, is held on Pacific University’s Forest Grove campus. Tickets range from $20 to $5. Gates opened at 8:30 a.m. For more information visit http://www.forestgroveconcours.org or call 1-888-359-2530. Follow the event on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/forestgroveconcours.
