Animal shelter open July 4
Bonnie L. Hays will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for lost and found pets
The Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro will be open July 4 for lost and found services only.
Shelter manager Deborah Wood said the Independence Day holiday is the shelter's busiest day of the year.
"This is already shaping up to be a very busy Fourth of July, with much of the shelter already full," Wood said Wednesday afternoon. "We expect this to be exceptionally busy because the Fourth is at the beginning of a three-day weekend."
Animals are easily frightened by fireworks, and Wood pointed out that the best way to keep your pet safe is to keep it indoors.
Shelter staff will be on hand Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for drop-off of lost animals and for those looking for a lost pet.
The shelter will not have adoption services available on Friday, but will resume all services on Saturday, July 5.
Bonnie L. Hayes Animal Shelter is located at 1901 S.E. 24th Ave. in Hillsboro.
