State rules against union in TriMet dispute

The State Employment Relations Board has ruled against Amalgamated Transit Union 757 in a series of labor complaints related to the ongoing contract negotiations with TriMet.

It is unclear how the ruling released Wednesday affects the current negotiations. The ERB ruled that ATU 757, which represents most TriMet employees, violated state collective bargaining statutes by intentionally delaying bargaining and by unlawfully demanding that TriMet agree to certain conditions in the negotiations. The ERB also dismissed seven ATU counterclaims.

The ruling requires ATU 757 to bargain in good faith with TriMet. But TriMet has declared an impasse in the negotiations, and the ERB required both sides to submit their final offers for mediation several weeks ago.
