Beaverton schools welcome new district leaders

District announces new administrative assignments


The Beaverton School District on Friday announced several administration assignments. Below is a list of those taking on new leadership roles throughout the district.

Elementary Schools

• Wendy Bernard has been selected as assistant principal at William Walker Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently the student supervisor at William Walker Elementary School, she joined the district in 1999 as an English/language arts teacher at Cedar Park Middle School. She also has experience as an IB Middle Years Program coordinator and a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA).

• Amy Chamberlain has been selected as assistant principal at Findley Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently interim assistant principal, she joined the district in 2007. She has also served as a student supervisor at Findley Elementary School and taught fourth and fifth grades at Oak Hills and Beaver Acres elementary schools.

• Erika Heslin has been selected as assistant principal at Kinnaman Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently the student supervisor, she joined the district from Baltimore Public Schools in 2006 as an English as a second language teacher at Kinnaman Elementary School.

• Melissa Holz has been selected assistant principal at Vose Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently the response to intervention coordinator at Aloha Huber Park K-8, she joined the district in 2006. She has taught second and third grades and served as a student supervisor.

• Laurie Huntwork has been selected as assistant principal at Barnes Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently a TOSA for outreach and engagement and the Positive Behavior Intervention System, she joined the district in 1999 as an elementary counselor at McKinley Elementary School. In 2003, she transferred to the counseling position at Aloha-Huber Park K-8, prior to joining teaching and learning in 2010.

• Cherie Reese has been selected as assistant principal at McKinley Elementary School, effective July 1. Currently a student supervisor at McKinley Elementary School, she joined the district in 1997 as an elementary teacher at Hazeldale Elementary School. She has experience teaching first, second and fifth grades and as an instructional specialist.

• Jennifer Vanderschuere has been selected as assistant principal at Springville K-8, effective July 1. Currently interim assistant principal, she has been a student supervisor, taught third grade and been a literacy coach at Sexton Mountain Elementary School, where she was hired in 2005.

Middle Schools

• Kelly Bordwell has been selected assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School, effective July 1. Currently an assistant principal at Beaverton High School, she joined the district in 1995 as a social studies teacher at Aloha High School. She has also been a teacher mentor for beginning and experienced teachers.

• Thao Do-Gwilliam has been selected as assistant principal at Highland Park Middle School, effective July 1. Currently a middle school assistant principal in the Reynolds School District, she has been an English/language arts teacher in Canby and Hillsboro school districts.

• Tina Myers has been selected as assistant principal at Meadow Park Middle School, effective July 1. Currently the student manager at Meadow Park Middle School, she joined the district in 2004 as an English as a second language teacher.

High Schools

• Lakisha Clark has been selected as assistant principal at Aloha High School, effective July 1, replacing Kulia Ferguson. She joined the district in 2004 as a high school chemistry teacher. She has also served as activities director and interim student supervisor.

• Greg Therrien has been selected as assistant principal at Aloha High School, effective July 1, replacing Brian Curl. He joined the district in 1997 as a math teacher at Meadow Park Middle School. In 1999, he transferred to Westview High School, where he has served in a variety of capacities, including teaching math, student supervisor and interim assistant principal.

Option School

• Kulia Ferguson has been selected as assistant principal at the Arts and Communication Magnet Academy, effective July 1. Currently an assistant principal at Aloha High School, she joined the district in 1994 as a consumer science teacher.

District Office

• Karl Granlund, risk manager, has been restored to administrator for risk management, effective July 1. Karl joined the district in 2009 as purchasing manager.

• Sho Shigeoka has been promoted to administrator for equity and inclusion, effective July 15. Sho joined the district in 2004 as a counselor at Westview High School. Most recently she has served as equity coordinator in teaching and learning.
