Police are investigating a burglary in which the suspect may have tried to sexually assault the victim, officers confirmed.
Details are still be sorted out, but officials said the initial report was made at 2:42 a.m. at the Greenleaf Springs Apartments in the 4200 block of Northeast 125th.
Officials on scene said the suspect may have broken in and used a weapon to threaten the victim. The victims fiance chased after the suspect, police said.
Police confirmed they have seized several items that could be used as potential evidence.
Nearly a dozen officers, including a police K-9 unit, responded to look for the suspect. It does not appear the victim and the suspect knew each other, officers said.
Using evidence found at the crime scene, officers eventually located the suspect inside a nearby apartment complex in the 4420 block of Northeast 131st Place, officers said.
Officers with the Forensic Evidence Division responded to both apartment locations to take photographs of the crime scenes.
Police said the suspect in custody is a juvenile. A man identifying himself as a family member declined to comment.
Officials confirmed that the apartment unit where the suspect was detained is being secured in case detectives with the Sex Crimes Unit need to do a search warrant.
