Sellwood Bridge closed through Friday
As part of the overall project, the Sellwood Bridge closed for at least three days beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The contractor will install 27 pre-cast concrete girders on support columns for the east approach to the new bridge, officials said.
The bridge will be totally closed until Friday afternoon.
During the commuter hours, traffic will be congested between the Sellwood and Ross Island bridges. Bicyclists and pedestrians may want to use the Hawthorne Bridge for a northern detour.
While the Sellwood Bridge is closed, Highway 43 will stay open.
Westbound detour routes are:
Highway 99E northbound to Ross Island Bridge to Highway 43
Highway 99E southbound to I-205 to Highway 43
Officials said the eastbound detours are simply reversed.
The new Sellwood Bridge is set to open in fall 2015, and the whole project should be completed in 2016. Officials told KOIN 6 News the project is on schedule.
