Oregon AG warns about email scam using her name
For the record, Oregon Attorney General Ellen F. Rosenblum is not in the payday loan collection business.
Apparently some people have been fooled into thinking that she is in that business. Fake emails with Rosenblums name have been circulating with a warning that the attorney general is telling some people to pay their payday loans or face legal consequences.
Rosenblums office said Wednesday that the emails were a scam, and anyone receiving the emails should not click on links or provide financial or personal information.
Neither the attorney general, nor the Oregon Department of Justice, would ever send you an email like this, Rosenblum said. The only emails you will receive from me are about scams or other matters impacting the public, and you have to sign up at my website to receive those. I would also never ask you to make a payment to avoid a legal consequence.
The official looking emails began circulating this week and claim that recipients are delinquent on a payday loan and must make a payment to avoid legal consequences. The email instructs people to click on a link or an attachment for more information, or to reply to the email.
Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam should contact the Oregon Department of Justice at www.oregonconsumer.gov , or call 1-877-877-9392.
