Portland Park Ranger threatened with gun

A Portland Park Ranger was threatened with a gun inside Colonel Summers Park on Friday evening.

The Portland Parks & Recreation employee was not injured. The suspect left before police arrived.

Police believe the suspect is a transient and describe him as a white male in his 30s, 6'3" tall, medium build, medium-length dirty brown hair, approximately four days of facial hair growth, wearing a dirty white long-sleeve t-shirt, dirty jeans, a dirty backpack, armed with a handgun.

According to police, at 9:35 p.m. on April 25, Central Precinct officers responded to the report that a Park Ranger had been threatened with a gun inside Colonel Summers Park, located at 1925 Southeast Taylor Street in the East Buckman neighborhood.

Officers arrived and met with the victim, who told them that he drove into the park and parked by the gazebo so he would lock up the park's bathrooms for the evening. The victim said that the suspect was inside the gazebo then walked towards the victim, holding a handgun at his side.

The victim told police that he held his hands up and told the suspect that he was just there to lock the bathrooms. At that point, the suspect slowly walked away towards Southeast Belmont Street.

After the suspect was out of site, the victim left the park and called 9-1-1.

Several officers checked the area for the suspect but did not locate anyone matching the suspect's description.

Anyone seeing this man should immediately call 9-1-1. Anyone with non-emergency information should contact the non-emergency line at (503) 823-3333, reference Portland Police Bureau case #14-33718.
