Gang officers busy Thursday evening
Police responded to two gun-related incidents Thursday evening.
In one of them, a man was wounded in a possible gang shooting in Northeast Portland Thursday evening.
The name of the victim was not released and no suspect information was immediately available.
In the other one, no one was injured when a gun was fired in Southeast Portland.
Police describe the suspect in that incident as an African American male in his 20s wearing all dark clothing.
Police describe both incidents as apparently hang related.
According to police, at 9:37 p.m. on March 20, North Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team officers responded to Woodlawn Park at Northeast 13th Avenue And Dekum Street on the report of gunshots heard in the area.
Several officers arrived in the area but did not locate any victims or evidence of gunfire initially. But at about that time, other officers responded to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in the event that a gunshot victim was transported by private car.
A vehicle arrived at Legacy Emanuel and showed evidence of gunfire and had one victim inside, a 25-year-old male. The victim was taken into the hospital where he is being treated for what are believed to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers canvassing the Woodlawn Park area then located a crime scene near Northeast Oneonta Street and Claremont Avenue, which is near the center of the park.
The Gang Enforcement Team has taken the lead on the investigation.
Earlier in the evening, at 6:04 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a man brandishing a firearm on Southeast Stark Street at approximately 157th Avenue.
Multiple officers responded to the area and at least one officer saw the suspect drop the handgun and run away into the neighborhood. Officers recovered the firearm and set up a neighborhood perimeter. A witness told police that the suspect fired a shot before dropping the gun and running away.
Several officers, including a Police K-9, searched the neighborhood but did not locate anyone matching the suspect's description.
No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.
The Gang Enforcement Team responded to the scene and has taken the lead on the investigation.
