Driver arrested for DUII in MAX tunnel accident

by: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - James Edmund DejarnetteWestside MAX service was restored Wednesday morning after being delayed by a car that got stuck inside the westbound light rail tunnel.

Central Precinct and Transit Police Division officers responded to the TriMet MAX tunnel, located west of the Goose Hollow Transit Station, on the report that someone drove a vehicle into the tunnel on the MAX tracks at 5:09 a.m. on March 19. Approximately 300 feet inside the tunnel, they located the vehicle, a 1999 Hyundai four-door, and the driver, who was not injured.

The driver, James Edmund Dejarnette, 28, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Reckless Driving. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Thursday.

The vehicle was towed but delayed MAX Red and Blue line service during the morning commute. Westbound trains were able to get around the blockage using the eastbound tracks, but both westbound and eastbound trains were delayed until the car was removed.
