PSU faculty, administration go back to bargaining table after strike vote
Portland State University management will sit down with faculty union leaders Friday from 9 a.m. to noon to resume labor contract negotiations, says PSU spokesman Scott Gallager.
That announcement comes after an overwhelming 94 percent strike authorization vote by members of the PSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
The strike authorization does not mean there will be a strike, but it gives the union more clout in talks with PSU administration. No strike could occur before April 3, when the mandatory cooling-off period expires. That gives both sides time to settle their differences.
Those differences revolve around faculty pay, length of employment contracts for non-tenured professors and the unions right to retain contract rights to tenure, promotion and related terms approved by the Faculty Senate.
