Science project mistaken for explosive

by: KOIN NEWS 6 - Police responded to a suspected explosive device that turned out to be harmless.A discarded school project was mistaken for a small explosive device and forced the evacuation of some residents in North Portland Sunday afternoon.

Police were alerted to the package in the field of a North Trenton Street-North Haven Avenue neighborhood around 3:15 p.m. on March 9. The bomb squad was called but determined the item was a school project.

Residents returned to their homes. No one was hurt.
