Eastside MAX service restored

Freezing rain disrupted eastside MAX service Sunday morning. It was restored around noon.

TriMet reported significant delays on the Blue, Green and Red lines from Lloyd Center east at around 10 a.m. on March 2.

Shuttle buses were assigned to serve stations between Gateway and Portland, and between Cleveland and Clackamas Town Center. Riders were told to expect delays and consider using regular bus service.

When the problems were solved, TriMet issued the following statement:

"MAX service on the east side was disrupted for about two hours this morning due to a pocket of freezing rain that moved much further into the Portland area than forecasters had predicted.

"Around 9 a.m., we had a few trains experiencing issues with ice and conditions quickly worsened. From about 9:10 a.m. through 10:45 a.m. no trains were moving on from Lloyd Center to the east. Trains were at platforms and remained available for riders to stay inside and stay warm. By 11 a.m., crews were able to get a few trains moving and by 11:15 a.m. service was restored.

"During the disruption, we provided shuttle buses. To do this, we did need to pull 11 buses out of regular service.

"Throughout the disruption, crews continued to clear the lines in order to restore service just as soon as we could.

"We do apologize to our riders for the inconvenience and appreciated their patience during this extreme weather event."
