Truck tangled in downed power lines
A car hit a power pole in Northeast Portland Saturday night, knocking it over and tangling a truck in the downed lines.
The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. at NE 21st and Columbia, authorities said. Several power poles were knocked over and the downed wires caused a power outage.
The truck driver of the car was slightly hurt and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was initially trapped inside his truck because of the wires laying on it. Crews turned the power off and the driver was able to get out.
Columbia was closed between 33rd Avenue and Columbia Way while the crash was investigated. Power was knoeked out for about 340 customers, mostly commercial businesses. Some residential customers were also affected. PGE crews worked through the night to repair the three damaged power poles and get power back in that area.
Investigators said alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
