Bomb squad removes suspicious device from Portland food pantry


by: PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) was called in to a report of a suspicious device found at the Hereford House Food Pantry on Monday morning.Police officers responded to a report of a suspicious device left on the steps of the Hereford House Food Pantry on Monday morning.

The Hereford House is located on the 7600 block of North Hereford Avenue. Upon examination of the device, officers made the decision to call for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond to the scene.

Officers at the scene asked some area residents close to the device to take shelter-in-place.

By 1:30 p.m., however, bomb technicians had safely removed the suspicious device and transported it to a safe location for further examination and destruction.
