Commissioners may put Wikman Building back on market
The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners on Thursday will consider putting the historic Wikman Building near Southeast Foster Road on the market.
Commissioners will be asked to approve a new request for proposals for the former library, after a community group led by ROSE Community Development failed to raise enough money to buy the building.
Commissioners declared the building as surplus property two years ago and agreed to enter into exclusive negotiations with ROSE and allied neighborhood groups, which hoped to turn the building into a community center or similar facility. The groups said they were hampered in their fundraising because they lacked control of the property. But the site lacks its own parking lot, which limits its uses.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss a resolution by Commissioner Judy Shiprack to issue a new request for proposals at 10:05 a.m., in their regular Thursday meeting at the Multnomah Building, 501 S.E. Hawthorne.
