Shooting injures one person in SE Portland confrontation

Portland police are looking for a person who fired a handgun during a disturbance Wednesday morning in a Southeast Portland neighborhood.

One person was slightly injured by either a ricochet or by shrapnel from the bullet striking near him. The suspect who fired the weapon fled after the shooting.

East Precinct officers said the shooting happened at about 10 a.m. New Year’s Day near Southeast 134th Avenue and Powell Boulevard. The disturbance escalated into a confrontation where a handgun was fired.

Officers found a residence where they believed the person with the firearm had fled to and executed a search warrant at the house. The search resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm, but officers were unable to find the shooting suspect.
