Nail salon employee recovers $20,000 in stolen cash
Clackamas County deputies arrest suspect
An employee of a nail salon on Southeat 82nd Avenue came up missing $20,000 in cash on Thursday evening.
The employee of Number One Nail Salon reported to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office that the cash had been stolen from her purse and she thought it was a customer, Theresa Costello, 37, who had taken the money. Her reasoning was that customer had been sitting on a chair where the victim's purse had been located. The victim indicated that she had this large amount of cash because she had been intending on going shopping for an engagement ring with her fiance.
The employee then confronted the Costello at her car. Both remained on the scene until deputies arrived and conducted a thorough investigation. During the course of the search, all of the cash was found under the driver's seat of the customer's car, and the customer admitted to having taken the cash, police said.
Costello was arrested and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on a charge of aggravated theft in the first degree. Additionally, she was also placed on a hold for a fugitive warrant issued by the State of Washington arising out of a first-degree theft charge in that state.
