Cover Oregon Hiring A Lawyer To Get Money From Oracle
(Oregon Public Broadcasting) Oregon's health insurance exchange is trying to hold software giant Oracle accountable for failures of the Cover Oregon website. But at the same time, the state also wants Oracle to keep working on the site.
When it became clear problems with the Cover Oregon website were not short-term, the state announced it would start a whole new paper application system.
Interim director Bruce Goldberg says they've now hired more than 400 workers at a cost of about $4 million dollars a month. And he wants Oracle to foot that bill, "We're finalizing arrangements with independent counsel, some experts outside on the options that we have to hold the contractor accountable through the contract that we have."
Goldberg says they're also looking to hire a software expert to oversee Oracle's work. He says so far, the state has withheld about $20 million dollars in payments to the company.
Oracle did not immediately respond to OPB's requests for comment.
