Free parking offered to entice downtown shoppers
To help make up for the shopping revenue lost during this week's downtown power outage, 1,000 free Smart Park parking validations will be available this Saturday and Sunday at the information booth in Pioneer Place at 700 S.W. 5th Ave. and the Pendelton Store at 900 S.E. 5th Ave.
The promotion was announced Wednesday afternoon in the atrium of Pioneer Place by Sandra McDonough, President and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance, and Lisa Frisch, the organization's Retail Program Director.
McDonough and Frisch would not speculate obout how much business had been lost at the 50 to 75 stories affected by the outage, which began on Sunday. Although PGE crews worked around the clock to repair the damage caused by the underground fire, power was not restored until Wednesday.
"There are still 13 shopping days left before Christsman, so there's still time for people to come downtown and buy their holiday gifts," said McDonough.
Also affected were Portland City Hall, the Portland Building, and the Multnomah County Courthouse.
The validations are worth $5 each. They can be redeemed on Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 at any Smart Park parking garage.
