Blazers lose -- Suns outgun them 120-106

PHOENIX SUNS 120, Portland Trail Blazers 106

Wednesday night, US Airways Center, 12,731 announced attendance

HIGHLIGHTS

Portland had the better of it early and led by 16 points, but the Suns and their pace wore down the Blazers.

Phoenix won the second quarter 40-26 to go in front 61-58 at the break, then took the third quarter 29-18 and hiked their lead to as many as 20 points.

Portland failed to make a run in the fourth quarter. Blazers coach Terry Stotts threw in the towel with more than five minutes to go, taking out various starters.

WHAT IT MEANS

The Blazers' winning streak ended at 11 games, and Portland's record dropped to 13-3.

And Phoenix (8-7) leads the four-game season series 2-1.

Phoenix scored the most points by anyone against the Blazers this season. Portland had allowed 116 to Houston on Nov. 5. That was the last time the Blazers had lost a game.

On the road, Portland is 7-2, after its first away loss in the last seven tries.

At home, Phoenix is 6-2. And the Suns are 22-4 at home in their last 26 games against the Blazers.

TOP PERFORMERS

Former Blazer Channing Frye, starting at power forward for Phoenix, poured in 25 points and added nine rebounds. Suns point guard Goran Dragic, who always seems to play well against Portland, had 31 points (one off his career high) and 10 assists.

For the Blazers, LaMarcus Aldridge led four players in double figures with 24 points. Damian Lillard had 16, Nicolas Batum 15 and Robin Lopez 10, with 10 rebounds.

KEY STATS

Phoenix outshot Portland from the field, 51.9 percent to 45.3 percent.

And the Suns bench outscored the Blazers reserves 44-33.

QUOTES

Portland coach Terry Stotts: "I'm glad we don't have to play Phoenix until April. After we got a lead, they completely outplayed us; hats off to them. Playing hard is a talent. It's underrated as a talent."

NEXT

The Blazers are off until Sunday, when they visit Staples Center for a 6:30 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Lakers (CSNNW).
