Rain, wind pounds Portland-area residents Thursday morning
Portland-area residents braced strong winds and heavy rains early this morning as a storm blew through Oregon and Washington.
Shortly after 8 a.m., a strong squall line hit the Portland-Vancouver area and brought with it winds in excess of 50 mph in isolated areas. Wind gusts peaked at 39 mph at Portland International Airport. More than a quarter inch of rain fell Thursday morning. Several power outages were also reported.
According to a report from the Oregon Meteorological Society, this morning's storm is similar to one that hit the Seattle area last weekend that had wind gusts up to 60 mph.
The precipitation and drop in temperature has also caused snow to begin accumulating in the Cascades, although roads were clear at Government Camp by Thursday afternoon.
