Trash your unwanted medicines in ecofriendly way
Got some unwanted, unused or expired medicines cluttering up the medicine cabinet? Or some leftover prescription narcotics that youd just as soon not be in your house any more?
Dont toss them down the toilet and pollute the municipal water supply; bring them to National Prescription Take-Back Day Saturday, Oct. 26.
The national event is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, and blessed by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, among others.
Only prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted, so dont bring needles, IV solutions, mercury thermometers or medical waste. And dont even think about bringing illegal drugs.
To find a disposal site near your house, log onto: www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/index.html.
For those unable to participate in Saturdays event, there are more than 60 law enforcement offices in Oregon that accept unwanted and unused drugs throughout the year. To find those sites, check: www.deq.state.or.us/lq/sw/hhw/DrugTakeBackSites.pdf. Or contact your local city police office or county sheriffs office.
