Happy Valley celebrates sculpture garden opening
Celebrate the new Happy Valley Sculpture Garden when its dedicated at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. Light refreshments will be served as part of the ceremony.
Happy Valleys rotating sculpture garden program was inspired by local resident Jim Grady, who envisioned enlivening the areas around City Hall, 16000 S.E. Misty Drive. In March, the City Council approved the program, and artists installed their work in June.
With the goal of enriching Happy Valleys cultural environment and promoting public participation with artists, the program provides City Hall visitors and staff an up close and personal view of a variety of artworks.
Clackamas County Arts Alliance members oversaw the project and called for submissions from Oregon artists. A Public Art Selection Committee selected four artists to display six sculptures for the inaugural two-year exhibit.
Selected artworks encompass a wide range of styles and use reclaimed materials, such as old farm fuel tanks, repurposed steel and electrical conduit. All the works are designed to withstand the Oregon climate and have minimal maintenance requirements.
